On the Path to Published - Introducing Me Blog #1
A little bit about who I am and how I got into writing.
“Who am I?” is sort of a loaded question. I am never quite sure where to start or what to say when it comes to introductions. I wish I could say I was a world traveler, but in this economy, I’m simply a resident of Florida. In the context of a Substack introduction, I would say that I am a creative soul, a dreamer, and a lover of fiction. I often say I am someone who can’t pick a lane because so many different creative fields intrigue me. For my day job, I chose tech.
I’m the daughter of an IT Director and a visual artist. I was gifted my father’s logical brain and my mother’s creative brain, all mushed together into one. When I was ready for college, I was interested in two majors that were very opposite of each other. Mathematics and Creative Writing. I decided to study math and pursue my writing goals through extracurricular activities. Over time, I became increasingly interested in exploring the intersection of creativity and logic, rather than focusing solely on logic (in mathematics). I transitioned into first data analytics and then robotics development. I love that I work in a field that combines logic and creativity!
A dream that is not going to fade, however, is my dream of publishing novels. My first attempt at writing a book came in the fifth grade. I wrote that one out by hand in a journal! Later, an attempt was made in high school—two hundred Google Docs pages of incoherence. I got the closest in college, creating a coherent story and self-publishing Lithium and Let’s Plays. Although I could not give it the tender love and care I wish I could have, since I was working full-time and attending school full-time as it progressed from edits to publication.
Now, with a degree and a career that I love, I am ready to dedicate more of myself to writing than I ever could before. I have decided to do some edits on Lithium and Let’s Plays, as well as a cover redesign, then self-publish a new version. My goal is to launch the revised book in August 2025. I have a novella that I've been reviewing with other writers, which I'm looking forward to redesigning. I'm currently drafting a novel, tentatively titled Atlantis 3000. I have been attending creative writing classes at my library, getting involved with writers’ groups, and joining online writing communities. And so now, I have found myself here.
I am going to share reflections on what I learn as I continue to improve myself as a writer. I may also post thoughts on books I’ve read and reflections on the publishing process. Additionally, I plan to share snippets of my work, including flash fiction and poetry. I have my Linktree in my profile, where you can explore the art and music I've created as well. I am so excited to be part of this platform and meet other writers as my journey to publication continues.
